Sydney Sweeney and Jonathan Davino calling off their wedding was reportedly a long time coming.
A source told People on Thursday that “things have been rocky” between Sweeney, 27, and the businessman, 41, “for a long time.”
The status of their engagement has been a hot topic of discussion since TMZ reported last month that they had decided to postpone their May nuptials.
Reports later surfaced that Sweeney and Davino had been living apart separately, with the “Euphoria” star checking into the Beverly Hills Hotel in mid-February despite owning several Los Angeles properties.
While she was spotted hanging out with a few friends at the hotel, sources told TMZ that Davino did not join her for the month-long stay.
The actress added fuel to the fire after fans noticed she deleted a photo of her kissing Davino from her Instagram feed. The rare PDA-packed picture was part of a larger carousel shared on Jan. 2, which is still on her profile.
Amid mounting speculation about their relationship status, Us Weekly reported that all wedding plans have come “to a halt.”
“Sydney and Jonathan have been having major issues but are not fully split,” the insider told the outlet Wednesday.
“Things are not great right now, but they aren’t throwing in the towel yet,” the source added. “They are working on their relationship but have called off the wedding for now.”
While they were supposed to say “I do” this spring, the “wedding is not happening, and they aren’t having further discussions about it,” the source shared.
Sweeney reportedly “wanted to cancel everything” due to the “stress” from her packed production schedule, which has been a point of contention for the couple.
“A lot of their issues stem from Sydney being extremely busy with work commitments,” the insider said. “She doesn’t have a lot of downtime, and it causes tension in their relationship. Sydney is really focused on her career. Jonathan wishes they were able to spend more quality time together.”
Sweeny has a whopping six projects in the pipeline, from the Apple TV+ thriller “Echo Valley” to an unnamed Christy Martin biopic and a screen adaptation of the best-selling book “The Housemaid,” to name a few.
The actress gives her “full attention” to work when she is shooting or promoting a project — which is nearly all the time.
“Things are also always tense between them when she is promoting a movie because she has to give her full attention to the project, and people always speculate about their relationship and Sydney being close to her costars,” the source alleged. “It’s a tough dynamic for Jonathan.”
Breakup rumors started to swirl in April 2023 while Sweeney was filming “Anyone But You” with Glen Powell.
The co-stars’ clear chemistry led fans to question whether Sweeney and Davino were still together due to the private nature of their relationship.
Although both Sweeney and Powell denied the gossip, the “White Lotus” star found herself in the same situation a year later after fans called out her close relationship with co-star Brandon Sklenar.
While the “Sharp Objects” star rarely responds to rumors about her love life — or life in general — she previously told Variety that she “sometimes feels beat up” by all the speculation.
“It’s hard to sit back and watch, and not be able to stand up for yourself,” she said.
Although the actress has not addressed recent rumblings about her romance with Davino, she shared a pointed Instagram upload from a girls’ trip to Tanzania, Africa, earlier this week.
“only up from here,” she captioned a carousel of pictures from a hot air balloon ride.
Sweeney began dating Davino in 2018 before getting engaged four years later.
