Soggy socialites fall in pool at Balmain event in Hamptons

This high-end Hamptons fashion event accidentally got wet and wild!

We hear that a private Balmain dinner in the Hamptons ended up with “several guests falling into an indoor wading pool that was perilously close” to a long elegant dining table.

The chic VIP event was to celebrate the upcoming Couture Council of the Museum at FIT honoring Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing at its upcoming annual luncheon next month at Lincoln Center. The Hamptons event was also put on by Bloomingdale’s.

A witness at the event told Page Six that a number of attendees, “in dresses and gowns worth between $7,500 and $25,000 and wearing millions of dollars in jewels, fell into the pool while trying to mingle with other guests during the dinner at a private home in East Hampton.”

Another source said: “Some women actually steeped into the wading pool… It was a gorgeous dinner!”

(The wading pool next to a long table was pretty shallow, according to social media pics from the event, so no one would’ve gone off the deep end, so to speak.)

An insider told us, “The sophisticated dinner featured Waterford crystal glasses and over 50 crystal chandeliers suspended above one long table that was situated next to the edge of a shallow indoor pool, which doubled as a runway for pedestals showcasing mannequins dressed in Balmain.”

And, “Although waiters from top-tier caterer, Olivier Cheng, stood guard at the edge of the pool, which was just four-feet from the table, five people still fell into the water!”

After the fifth social took a dip, with a “face-plant,” we hear that the hostess “had the floor of the [level of the] pool raised and the water drained away, and the problem was solved.” Phew! You can do that in the Hamptons! “The dripping-wet and unharmed guest jumped up and laughed off the incident.”

One of the night’s hosts joked that she likes to throw parties with “an element of danger,” and cracked that she hoped the temporary chandeliers decorating the event didn’t fall onto the tables.

“She also warned them about the proximity of the pool to the table, and said that whoever fell in would get a free Balmain dress,” said a spy. (One guest who got wet apparently asked the hostess for the free dress and was told she would get it!)

We hear that attendees included Ramona Singer, Fern Mallis, Jean Shafiroff, Monica Elias, Nicole Salmasi, Valerie Steele and 100 top Balmain clients.

“After dessert, everyone went downstairs to go bowling and dance,” said the insider.

We also hear that socialite entrepreneur Julie Macklowe’s whiskey brand, the Macklowe, was served, and Macklowe even bowled two straight strikes to wild applause.

Reps did not get back to us.
