Pedro Pascal gave Jimmy Kimmel some not-so-subtle side-eye after the late-night host wondered whether there were other famous Chilean actors.
“I thinking about this today: Are you the most famous actor — I mean internationally — from Chile?” Kimmel, 57, asked Pascal, 49, on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Monday. “Are you No. 1?”
However, the “Last of Us” star was not willing to give himself that title as the comedian pondered who “the other candidates” would be.
“There are so many other candidates,” Pascal said with a smile.
“There are so many brilliant people from Chile,” he added with a chuckle, casting a sidelong glance at Kimmel over the cringey query.
The host then steered the conversation to the actor’s large family — including his 34 first cousins — before they could discuss other famous Chilean stars.
Pascal was born in Santiago, but his family fled their home country shortly after due to Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship.
“My mother’s cousin was very primary in the opposition against the military regime, but there was a huge degree of separation between him and my parents,” he told Time in 2017. “Still, helping some people hide got them into hot water — eventually they got to the Venezuelan embassy and claimed asylum.”
From there, they were “sent to Denmark” before moving to San Antonio, Texas, and then Orange County, Calif.
While Pascal and his sister were raised in the United States, their American-born younger siblings moved back to Chile with their parents in 1995.
“I’ve gone back my whole life,” he said of visiting the South American nation. “Everything is very normal in their lives. I feel a profound sense of gratitude and luck for that, and an incredible mourning for such an unjust and horrifying chapter that is still not given its due and just recognition.”
Despite the distance, Pascal told Kimmel he is still extremely close to his extended family. However, he admitted they are “a little mad” at him currently.
“They’re not talking to me right now because I ditched a WhatsApp group … because the phone was just blowing up every couple of seconds,” he explained.
The “Game of Thrones” star said he did not need to know “everything that was going on” in “34 people’s daily routines.”
“I’m too big now,” he sarcastically said. “I’m too famous. Leave me alone!”
