Brett Gardner’s family announced funeral plans for Miller Gardner after the teen tragically died while on vacation earlier this month.
A private celebration at a later date will be held for the 14-year-old at J. Henry Stuhr Northwoods Chapel in South Carolina, according to an obituary published by Charleston’s The Post and Courier Monday.
“The void Miller’s passing leaves in the hearts of his family, friends, teammates, teachers, coaches and others will be felt for years,” the obituary reads.
“In this time of unimaginable loss, the family prays that joy and healing will come to others who share their grief.”
In the obituary, Miller was described as an active eighth grader at Pinewood Preparatory School, where he was a member of the baseball and football teams and was on the Honor Roll.
“Outside of school, his hobbies included golf, fishing, hunting, riding dirt bikes, and traveling to new places with his family,” the obituary explained.
“The Gardner family will forever cherish the places they visited, the people they met, the friends they made, and the memories they created together,” the obituary continued.
Miller’s family also requested donations in his honor be made to The Make-A-Wish Foundation, “a non-profit helping fulfill wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.”
“Miller was so blessed with experiences and friendships in his 14 years, and he would want other children to have the opportunity to create their own wonderful memories,” the obit stated.
As Page Six previously reported, Miller died on March 21 after falling ill while vacationing in Costa Rica with his family.
First responders arrived at the teenager’s hotel room at the Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort, where he was declared “clinically dead” with no vital signs, Dr. Kevin Gannon, the head of Manuel Antonio Urgent Care, told People.
Medics performed CPR for 30 minutes, but “there was not much [they] could do for him.”
Autopsy results won’t be available for another few months. However, Costa Rica officials believe Miller may have passed from an allergic reaction to food poisoning after they ruled out asphyxiation.
Local coroners are reportedly backed up on autopsies due to a “hike in homicides” amongst “drug gangs.”
The Post confirmed over the weekend that Miller’s body was returned to his family.
