Alix Earle isn’t hiding her acne.
Amid a “blistering breakout,” the Gen Z influencer, 24, ditched makeup in public during a weekend trip to New York City.
Sharing close-up photos of her blemishes in an Instagram carousel, Earle started a lengthy caption admitting that “we are our own worst enemy.”
The internet sensation continued, “As someone who has always struggled with their skin since middle school, makeup has always been a safe space for me in terms of feeling secure and confident when leaving the house.”
During her stay in the Big Apple, Earle paid a visit to dermatologist Dr. Kiran Mian, who did extractions on the content creator’s skin to clean out her pores.
“The problem is normally I go right into my routine which is putting on makeup to cover the redness (especially when I’m going out to dinners or to events),” Earle explained in the caption.
However, on her weekend jaunt, she decided to forgo product on her face to give her complexion a break. “Seems dramatic but for me I was petrified and felt like the only thing people were going to look at was my skin,” the New Jersey native added.
“After 3 days of being out fresh faced show my real skin … I realized no one cared or noticed. Because at the end of the day putting on makeup over blistering acne just to wash it off and irritate it isn’t for me.”
Earle wrapped up the caption by saying how “liberating” the experience was, encouraging others to follow suit. “Real skin is beautiful ♥️”
The influencer has been open about her journey with acne in the past, sharing her favorite products and even launching her “All Things Acne” TikTok series in 2023.
“I just want to talk about the fact that it’s normal,” she said about acne in the video. “This time last year I would cry probably 3 times a day. I did not want to leave my house.”
Followers applauded the influencer for her transparency on the common issue, with one person commenting, “I just want to talk about the fact that [acne is] normal. This time last year I would cry probably 3 times a day. I did not want to leave my house.”
Perhaps she’ll inspire others to step out sans makeup, too.
